|
Salvage |
The final
inventory of an edition immediately prior to initial
distribution of a new edition. Other than for recycling,
salvage books have no value. |
|
Scoping |
The delivery area for a particular phone
book. |
|
Secondary Distribution (or
Delivery) |
The delivery of directories between initial
(primary) deliveries. Secondary distribution is primarily a
fulfillment operation for distributing relatively
small quantities of books. Typical triggers for interim
deliveries include new connects, foreign directory requests,
bulk drop replenishments, and customer requests. Also called
interim distribution (or delivery). Related Terms: Initial Distribution |
|
SIC |
Short for Standard Industrial
Classification Code.
A numerical ID categorizing businesses by their products or
services. Very
similar to yellow page headings. SIC codes can be used to
identify potential bulk drops. |
|
Start Date |
The scheduled first day of initial
deliveries for a particular market. |
|
Station Copies |
Duplicates of
the documents provided to
delivery carriers. Examples include
route sheets, route maps,
and advertiser
signature receipts. Station copies are retained by field
managers at the delivery station primarily as a backup. Also called
manager's copies. |
|
Station Labor |
Individuals hired on an hourly basis to
assist the field manager at the delivery station. Also known as
station clerks. May perform carrier check-ins, check-outs,
delivery
verifications, and other miscellaneous tasks. While most
carriers are independent contractors, station clerks should
be classified and paid as hourly wage earners. |
|
Stops |
Addresses that
are to receive books. Also known as delivery points. Stops
are often broken down by type of stop: business,
residential, bulk
drop, and advertiser. For controlling book inventory and
preventing book dumping, the number of stops on each route
should be known. |

 |
Delivery
stops
can be shown on maps and color-coded by type. In the
PictureRoute sample on the left, the blue
dots are residences. The red dots are advertisers.
The green dots are non-advertiser businesses. |
